Ewell Astronomy Society
On Friday 8th February our very own astronomical guru, Mr Fishwick, will be presenting a talk on astronomical distances.
He will guide us through Eratosthenes' computations to discover the size of the Earth itself, to the relative sizes of the Earth and Moon and hence the distance of the Moon using the methods of Aristarchus.
Then to the method proposed for the distance to the Sun, parallax and Cepheids.
Highly relevant to all GCSE Astronomers.
Also add Friday 8th March to your diary when our alumini Melis Irfan, now studying for her PhD at Jodrell Bank speaks to the group on her Cosmological studies, including the CMB.
Both events start at 8pm at Nonsuch High School for Girls, in the 6th form common room.

Congratulations Nonsuch Space Ventures Ltd.
Three highly competent teams from Nonsuch entered this year’s UK Space Design Competition with a chance to win a trip to NASA’s Lyndon. B. Johnson Space Center in America.
The quality of this year's entries was absolutely amazing and the judges had an extremely hard time deciding who to invite to London. However, Nonsuch Space Ventures Ltd. was successful and was selected to compete in the residential finals of UKSDC 2013 at Imperial College London.
Congratulations.
